What is memory care?

Memory care is the term for the dementia care that we offer at Artisan care homes. Those living with dementia may need a higher level of care as they are more vulnerable to confusion, memory loss, and illnesses. Our residential care homes have dedicated floors designed to meet the unique needs of dementia patients, with enhanced lighting, simple navigation, and 24/7 care staff to ensure safety and security.

When is dementia care appropriate?

As dementia progresses, patients will need more care and support. If they are reaching a point where they are no longer able to safely live alone, or those caring for them are becoming overwhelmed with the level of support they need, it’s a good idea to explore the options available. At times, patients suggest moving themselves because they don’t feel safe, and at others the family decides that it is the best course of action.

Why is dementia care important?

At our core, the Artisan Care Homes team wants to do everything we can to provide a happy, dignified life for our residents. Traditional residential care homes aren’t equipped with what dementia patients need, and as a result their outcomes can be worse. As with any condition, it’s vital that it is treated properly for a better quality of life, as well as peace of mind for loved ones.

Benefits of dementia care

By using a care home with dementia care, you are ensuring their safety by providing 24/7 support from trained care workers. We are not only focused on keeping our residents safe, but also providing an environment and care plan that can slow the progression of the disease whilst improving their quality of life. With structure, careful management, activities and a personalised care plan, residents can maintain as much independence as possible.

Hear from our residents and their families

My mother has been a resident at Poets Mews for some fifteen months. She has dementia. She is totally happy and talks about the wonderful place where she lives. I have absolute confidence in the staff and the quality of the care my mother receives twenty-four-seven. The staff show affection for my mother and encourage her and we are welcomed as if part of the Poets Mews family, which is how we feel.

Our mum recently stayed in Mousehold for a two-week respite period. The customer service manager and all the staff were helpful, friendly and approachable. Mum stayed on the dementia floor and was looked after really well by one lady especially. We were slightly anxious as have used other care homes for respite in the past. We need not have worried, everything worked well, her room was immaculate and the food and entertainment were excellent.

We moved my dad from hospital to Poets Mews in May. My dad is on the memory floor as he has dementia, he is treated with dignity and respect. He is well cared for and receives great support from the care staff when required. I visit every day, Dad is always showered and wearing clean clothes. The home is spotlessly clean, Dad’s room is always clean and tidy.
