On Sunday 6th October, our Braintree Care Homes’ Customer Service Manager Scott Reece took part in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk 2024 at Highlands Park Chelmsford Essex. This walk brings together many people who have been affected by dementia, all walking to fund vital dementia support and research, coming together to walk for a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
Dementia, a debilitating condition that affects over 900,000 individuals in the UK, has tragically become the nation’s leading cause of death. Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with this incurable disease. The prospect of dementia is undeniably worrying, but hope lies in supporting organisations like the Alzheimer’s Society. By contributing to their fundraising efforts, we can significantly advance research and provide vital support to those affected by this devastating illness. Together, we can work towards a future where dementia is no longer a looming threat.
Scott said “Although the day had a grey and drizzly start, the clouds soon vanished and the the sun came out to make the day even more special! – I can’t wait to do it again next year” – Scott walked the longer 7K (4.35 miles) route and raised a brilliant £356 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The event was expected to be attended by 800 people but numbers peaked at 900!
