Our Middleton Lodge Care Home, based in Littleover, Derby, welcomed ITV into their home to celebrate the long-lasting love of our companion suite residents. Middleton Lodge currently has four couples in its companion suites who have been together for over 280 years combined!
Our companion suites have adjoining rooms so you can use them for however would suit you and your loved one best. You could share a room and make a living room for just the two of you out of the adjoining room, or if you’d prefer, you can have separate rooms whilst knowing the other is only in the adjoining room. It’s a wonderful way of flexible living so that couples won’t be separated.
Peter, a former engineer for Rolls Royce, and Eileen, who taught Classics, have been married for over 66 years and they are the first couple we meet in the feature. Peter had to move into the care home due to health issues, but he explains that ‘it was the sensible thing to do, and it’s a very comfortable arrangement. Being together is the best thing.’
The second couple we meet are an artistic pair, Albert and Monica, who have been together for over 69 years – Monica even made her own wedding dress. They chose twin rooms, so they can enjoy their own space whilst also knowing that each other is only next door.
Then we have Alan and Trudy, our teenage sweethearts who were married 75 years ago. It can be a very difficult decision to come into a care home, so knowing that you can come in with a loved one can be comforting.
ITV asked the couples what the secret is to a long-lasting relationship –
Our residents said; to love and care for each other, accept one another and have a sense of humour. If you’d like to watch this heartwarming interview, why not watch over on our Facebook > Facebook Link – Middleton Lodge Care Home ITV Feature
