What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term stay at our care home, for whatever reason it is needed. Often both carers and those who are being cared for need a break or a change in scenery. We will still assess the resident’s medical needs, to make sure that we are able to meet them properly.

When is respite care appropriate?

There is no one-size-fits-all reason to need respite care. For some, it’s when the family members who usually care for them need to go away for a while, or are just in need of a break. For others, it’s to recover from surgery that would make it hard to look after themselves.

Why is respite care important?

Respite care represents peace of mind for those who need to use it. For carers, it’s the opportunity to have a break or a holiday with the knowledge that your loved one is still being looked after well. For residents, it’s a safe, comfortable place to stay as you recover. For both, it’s self-care and stress reduction.

Benefits of respite care

Both carers and residents benefit from respite care. Just a few weeks of break can make a huge difference for mental wellbeing, however at times it’s difficult to admit that it’s needed. With respite care at a care home, you can have the peace of mind to know that there will be 24/7 care by trained professionals, in a luxury ensuite room. There will be regular activities, opportunities to socialise, and you’re likely to leave with a strong community of people who understand your experiences.

My husband came for respite in March; however, it was decided he should stay for full-time care due to a few safeguarding issues. The care home is an extremely homely and friendly place. Very loving, patient and caring staff. He is always occupied with the many varied activities and trips organised by the wonderful lifestyle girls. Everyone has gone above and beyond to make my hubby and me happy and settled. Keep up the brilliant work, Seagrave team.

My mum stayed at Mousehold View for 2 weeks and enjoyed her stay. I was really impressed with everything about it. I couldn’t find any fault with anything, it’s like a 5-star hotel, an amazing place, and now my mum is back home she says it’s the place she would live full time when needs to be, thank for everything.

Dad stayed for one week for respite care after having a knee replacement. Wow, Middleton Lodge Care Home went above and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. It is nicer than any five-star hotel or cruise ship! I am only sorry that I couldn’t stay with Dad for the week. Beautiful rooms, fantastic facilities, amazing food, wonderful, caring staff, quality furnishings, superb cleanliness. Nothing is too much trouble. This really is a fabulous home, there is nothing that hasn’t been thought of to keep your loved ones safe, happy and feeling at home. Even better than home!
